American Legion Auxiliary will distribute memorial poppies on Poppy Day May 26. The paper flowers provide employment for hundreds of disabled World War veterans through winter and spring, earning about 3100,000. Poppies are made in government hospitals and Auxiliary workrooms to fund wages and support veteran welfare programs.
The state highway commission awards the National Road Main Street rebuilding job through Richmond to Brooks Construction Co. of Fort Wayne. Wayne county Employment Relief Commission furnishes labor, with ex service men with dependents given preference. Wages set at 50 cents per hour unskilled and 60 cents per hour skilled. No employee pays for tools or fees to obtain work on the project.
