Fifty Years A Teacher W Hiser Retires From Indianapolis Schools

W S Hiser, a renowned educator in Indianapolis, retires after over 50 years in teaching. He pioneered the uniform system of penmanship in Richmond in 1894 and spent 26 years at Manual Training High School. Hiser, a Wayne County native born near Cambridge City, taught rural and Richmond schools before joining Indianapolis. He was the first Indiana common school graduate to earn a diploma, issued in 1881 signed by County Superintendent J C Macpherson.

Lawrence Legion selects Wadman for Bay State meet trip

The American Legion Auxiliary unit of Lawrence H. DPertshoot sponsors a trip for a local boy to the Bay State meet in Indianapolis from June 17 to 24. Harold Wadman was chosen by teachers based on citizenship responsibility elliptic standing attitude and sportsmanship.

Weekend visits and social events in multiple towns

Mrs. Alice Morse of Hagerstown and others visited relatives in several homes over the weekend, with dinners and family gatherings across Indiana and Ohio. Warning to Cambridge City on fire alarms and traffic rules

Mount Auburn man fined, license revoked after reckless driving

Merle Wadman of Mount Auburn was fined ten dollars and costs and had his driving privilege revoked for thirty days in Richmond city police court after a reckless driving charge stemming from a Friday accident on U S 40. He crossed the road to get mail and pulled into a motorcycle ridden by 18 year old John Henry Kelsey. Richard Hutchinson, 17, was riding behind, was thrown from the cycle, and suffered serious injuries. Both riders were hospitalized in Henry County. Hutchinson remained in an oxygen tent with critical injuries. Kelsey sustained head cuts and multiple injuries.
