The remains of Herman Eldridge Shipman were brought from Indianapolis to St. Elizabeth's church for a tribute to a good man. He died of heart failure at age 59 after a career with the Pennsylvania railroad in Columbus, Logansport, and Cambridge City, leaving a wife Catharine and nine children and one deceased daughter Bernadine. He served 32 years as yardmaster and baggage master, later working as baggage master on passenger trains. He was born in Mercer County Ohio June 17 1857 and buried beside his daughter in Riverside Cemetery.
Abraham Heiney a Pennsylvania Dutch blacksmith born 1801 in Lancaster County came to Indiana and built a life with land timber holdings, a Simons Creek turnpike director, and a frugal, principled character. A second note reports Milton road drag work by Chas. Ferguson under Geo Crull and Fred Murley, praising the smooth gravel roadwork east of Germantown road.
