Marion plans to entertain the G A R State encampment on May 27 and 28. The notice urges parental and official vigilance to curb open law violations in cigar stores and pool rooms, emphasizing shared responsibility for public morals.
Mrs Barbara Barefoot will turn 80 this Sunday and celebrate with a family dinner at Mr and Mrs J C Dodsons home. Michael Kelly died at his Indianapolis home last Thursday. he formerly lived in Centerville and was father to Louise Kelly a former local public school teacher. Spring arrived with a snow storm and continued light snow through Saturday night. The Friday Night club met at Mr and Mrs Lee Ault with Lucy OConnell of Dublin discussing French scientists and inventions. Isaac Davis, born March 22 1836 in Raysville, Henry county, reached 79 and is likely the longest continuously resident. his birthday dinner was hosted by his wife with relatives from here and Indianapolis. Two notable dates for the 19th Indiana Battery March 19 and 20 recount Civil War actions and casualties including numbers killed wounded and missing on both sides with detailed unit movements and engagements at Bentonville Averysboro and Murfreesboro.
Matthias Wise born January 27 1827 in Rockingham Virginia died March 17 1915 at his Dublin Indiana home aged 88 years 1 month 20 days. He married Mary Shaffer April 15 1849 and had five children with two living Sarah E. Baily and Alice Elliott. He moved to Indiana around age three and lived 85 years in the county with 40 near Dublin. Survived by wife sister Margaret Elliott 21 grandchildren nineteen great grandchildren two great great grandchildren and many friends. He joined the United Brethren church about 60 years ago and the funeral was at home conducted by Bishop Halleck Floyd and Rev Zeigler with interment at South Side Cemetery.
