A sermon extols churchgoing as the supreme privilege for joy peace and contentment beyond modern marvels like airplanes movies and radio. It urges acquiring and keeping the church-going habit as the greatest blessing from God to mankind.
Pershing Ind March 17 The Lutheran Cemetery Association held its annual meeting March 14 at the church beside the cemetery. Most lot holders show little interest. the grounds are well kept. All Boxes members and the entire board were reelected, with S M Tout retained as sexton. Treasurer Uriah Bertsch reported the year ending March 14 1931 shows a balance of 2886 56 endowment fund 4350 00 and total assets 7236 56 with a net gain for the year of 2016 68.
Milton and nearby residents attended church events, visited relatives, and hosted gatherings. Activities include high school rehearsals for a spring operetta, Epworth League markets, M E Missionary Society meetings, and church programs. Wilson High School in Milton Indiana scheduled its commencement for Tuesday evening April 21 at 8 oclock. Nine graduates are listed: Margaret F Bertsch John C Connell Harold J Doty Leslie Lamott Dorothy Ling Dorothy joining Paul Gordon Lunsford Charles A May Glenn W Sample and Robert C Simpkins. Dr Lafollette will deliver the address The Open Sesame to Achievement. Principal Lloyd Feller will present the class and County Superintendent A H Hines will present the diplomas.
William J. Bowden aged 65 died at Reid Memorial Hospital Richmond from pneumonia linked to injuries from a March 8 automobile accident. He taught in local schools for 27 years under Superintendent Lee Ault, retired four years ago, and is survived by his daughter Esther and half brother James Bowden. Services were held at M. E. church with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Red Men lodge members attended Tri County Association meeting at New Lisbon. Dorothea Campbell and Omar spent time in Indianapolis. Lewis Whitton of Newcastle and Raymond Pickett of Greensfork visited Mrs. Martha Campbell. McKinley Leapley hosted a 500 club gathering with Charles Lowry as guest. Susan Mendenhall of Economy visiting A. F. Cain. Cain visited Eldo Cain at Newcastle Clinic. Voyle Martindale and son visited relatives in Cincinnati. Pauline Widner spent Sunday with son Frank in Indianapolis. Ruth Dodson of Ball’s Teachers College visited her parents. Mrs. Gibbs returned to Lebanon, Ohio, after weeks here.
Miss Hazel Howell entertained last Friday at the home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Tague. The guests included Miss Carmen Ohmit Erma Hoover Grace Ballenger Alice Dearing and Messrs Arthur Ballenger Merlin Tague and Everett Hoover.
Norman Howe and Mrs. Howe with grandchildren left Friday for North Dakota to test dry climate benefits for their granddaughter Rosemary Hurlburt who has been sickly. Squire Cornthwaite announced the birth of a great grandson born March 9 at Indianapolis Methodist hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hirschman, Elma Paul’s daughter Mrs. Roy Paul. This marks Cornthwaite’s second great-grandson in a week and Mary Paul’s first great-grandchild.

Mrs Emma Frances Hahn longtime Camabebdans City resident died Sunday after an eight week illness at her West Main home. She widowed Lewis A Hahn prominent local merchant and lived here forty years. She leaves sister Mrs J C Murray of San Juan Puerto Rico two nephews Frank Murray Chicago and Charles Lynch Detroit and a California niece. Funeral services were held Tuesday at home with Rev Wm H Harrison. burial Riverside cemetery.
Charlie Myers returned home from Purdue University for the weekend, visiting family and updating acquaintances on his latest activities and studies.
A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs A R Martindale on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Carl Smith and Miss Wilma Hadley spent the weekend with relatives in Plainfield.
Mrs Earl Clevenger and her baby son were brought home from Connersville hospital on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Donald Rutter of Hagerstown joined Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs McKinley Leapley. Jennie and Miriam Hunt visited grandparents Mr and Mrs James Hunt in Richmond over the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Allison were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Perry York, south of Dublin. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wilmore and daughter Catherine and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Sumner of Dayton visited relatives and friends here last Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Huber Reigle plan a Monday departure to Kansas City Kansas after spending two months with his mother Mrs Clara Reigle who has been seriously ill but is improving enough to stay at home The article notes her improved condition and the couple's planned travel.

They elected officers for the year: John Mannon president David Wissler vice president John C Dodson second vice president Fred Masterson secretary treasurer John C Dodson and I J L Harmeier teachers A luncheon was served in St Patrick s style and a jolly good time was had.
The Big Four freight train will complete its final run this evening marking the end of transportation on the Whitewater Valley segment between Hagerstown and Beeson Station thirteen miles long. The line has long operated at a loss as business shifted to other modes, and the company plans to abandon this stretch. A cement bridge replacement is planned at Green street, with the road bed to be cemented and graveled to match the street as tracks are removed starting immediately.
