Miss Janet Kirlin of Muncie visited relatives this weekend. Will Wissler and family relocated from the Bond farm north of town to the Hoover farm southwest of Hagerstown.
George Morton sustained a painful head injury from a fall down a cement stairway at his residence on Saturday. Mrs. Robert Elliott and son David visited Mrs. Russell Stonecipher for several days last week.
Mrs Arthur Hodson was called to Covington Kentucky last week because of illness affecting her daughter-in-law Mrs Herbert Hodson.
Miss Dorothea Urbahns returned from Indiana University over the weekend. Mrs. A. R. Martindale hosted a family dinner in honor of her daughter Marjorie’s eighth birthday on Lincoln Drive. Richard Glenn Morris was born March 9 at Reid hospital to Mr. and Mrs. George Morris. Mrs. Dan Winters returned home from Methodist Hospital Indianapolis after removal of her right eye due to an abscess.
Members are asked to bring news clippings for the meeting to be held tomorrow Friday afternoon at the Library. Mrs Albert Ferris will read a paper titled Summary of the 1939 State Legislature.
Local residents hosted and visited relatives across nearby towns including Cambridge City Richmond and Indianapolis. Citing a Ladysmith Wisconsin News report, it notes over 27 thousand earn more than 3000 dollars annually with some up to 12 thousand. It mentions 78 sellers earning seven to eight thousand and 290 press agents, arguing for reform and fiscal restraint.
The author notes the United States once lost about 250000 citizens annually to tuberculosis in the early 20th century and contrasts that with a current annual toll just under 70000, remarking that 70000 is enough to constitute a large city.

Mrs Ralph Kofski and Ronnie of Richmond visited her mother Mrs Marshall Wade Friday. Marion McIntire and baby of Richmond spent Sunday with his parents E L and Mrs McIntire. Chester Daniels and son of Evansville spent Monday and Tuesday with C B Evans family. Gertrude Blackford returned home from three weeks with brother Sidney Morton in Madison.
Mrs. Fay Funkhouser and helpers hosted the True Blue class of the Christian church at her home. About twenty members attended Wednesday evening for games contests and refreshments.
Mr and Mrs W R Burke visit New Castle with the Goars. Nora Hicks club dinner at Spiceland Legion hall hosted by Henry County members. Charles Loeb visits Lewisville. May couple moves to Centerville. Mae Kenyon of Carmel visiting Emil Kenyon. Guild Gals exchange gifts at Mrs Clifford Braden home after M E Service Guild meeting led by Mrs Fred Hines with refreshments by Mrs Edmund Johnson Mrs Earl Clevenger and Mrs Robert Griffin.
The U S Civil Service Commission opens an open competitive exam for substitute clerk and substitute city carrier at Cambridge City post office. Eligibility leads to certifications for vacancies and possible promotions to regular positions. applications due March 29, 1939, with R A Dodson as secretary and I J L Harmeier as postmaster. The Western Wayne County Ministerial Association also planned Good Friday services in Hanover area churches with town programs and cooperative closing cards.
The Helen Hunt club will meet Monday, March 20, at the Library. Mrs. Cora Bailey and Mrs. Willis Dorsett will run the program. Miss Juanita Barnes to be brought home this week from Reid hospital after surgery for cocaine addiction last Thursday. Thomas Sarver of near New Lisbon visited grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Enyeart on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Golay attended the funeral of their sister-in-law Mrs. Vern Merrick in Lewisville on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Harriett Cain of New Castle visited Friday at Mrs. Alice Ludington’s home. Earl Hickman has been brought home from Reid Memorial Hospital after major surgery ten days ago. Mrs. W. C. Pavey hosted a Virginia Meredith Home Economics club luncheon with Mrs. Ivan Deck assisting. members should bring table service sandwiches and a covered dish. Mrs. Horace Reed and Mrs. Henry Wilson led a discussion on Quilts and Hobbies. members were asked to bring print scraps thimbles and thread to start a pieced top, with House Cleaning Helps offered for responses.
Mrs. Harry Hinebaugh hosted a euchre party Friday evening for the birthday of her daughter Mrs. Jyle May. Scores listed for Mesdames Roland Wood Claude Dickerson Eric Locke Earl Clevenger Virgil Haskett Albert Polk Chauncey Locke James Bozoarth Ella Locke and Mrs. James May of Centerville at the home on Church street.
