Mr and Mrs Charles Wampler return from Florida. Many neighbors and visitors from nearby towns are cited with brief calls and stays. Local clubs, church groups, and town officials see activity from reorganizations to resignations and upcoming services.
Mr and Mrs C B Dungan and daughter Georgia of Dayton Ohio spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Robert L Smith and family. Mr and Mrs Herbert Hodson and daughter of Richmond spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs William Oldham. Mrs Nellie Brown and F G Perkins of Muncie were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs Harry Kuster. Mr and Mrs A G Cunningham spent Thursday in Indianapolis with friends. Mr and Mrs Harold Rowe have moved from the Crook property into the McLaughlin property on Gay street. Mrs Laura Richie and Mrs Alice Parson will entertain the Friday Bridge club with a party at their home on Main street tomorrow afternoon. Work was started Monday morning on the detour and temporary bridge across the river south of the water works plant to be used during the construction of the new Main street bridge. Traffic will be detoured over Church street.
Local ministers met Monday to arrange Good Friday and Easter services in Pershing Cambridge City Milton and Dublin. The program committee outlined the day’s order and plans to be printed later. Ministers praised cooperation from high school officials. Attending were Revs. Kramer Harrison McCormick Polson Allen Scheidler and Guyatt.
Mrs. George Harter from north of Jacksonburg was the weekend guest of Mrs. Edward Beeson. Mr. and Mrs. George Beeson and their daughter from Mooreland visited the Beeson family for the day.
The B. and M. Music Study club meets Saturday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Will Floyd in Dublin. The Friday Night club gathers Thursday evening at the Floyd Hines home in Pershing. Dr and Mrs Paul Ferguson of Indianapolis were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Raymond Furgason. The Furgasons visited Richmond with Mr and Mrs Robert Dill. Mr and Mrs Clifford Braden entertained Mr and Mrs J C Kellam and Mr and Mrs Alvin Lowry of Milton. Lowrys just returned from a Florida winter. The Hoosier Pete filling station in East Cambridge was entered last Friday night with thirteen tires stolen after a rear door lock was broken.
The annual Bean Supper of Womans Relief Corps No 151 at Red Men's Hall tonight follows a postponement due to gas shortage and cold weather. A full meal with extras is offered at the usual price, with ice cream cake and candies available. Proceeds aid the Memorial Day fund.
Season tickets for the Muncie Regional basketball tournament are sold at Lincoln high school's principal's office. Buy before Friday morning. Winchester plays New Castle at 2 pm Saturday, Greensfork meets Muncie at 3 pm.
The D A R will meet Thursday afternoon next week at Mrs Russell Worl. Mrs Voyle Martindale plans to return home at month end after two months in California with relatives. Mr and Mrs Charles Winter to spend Saturday with friends in Munice. Mrs Minnie Stonecipher spending today in Richmond with daughter Mrs Elmer Sauer. Mrs Melvin Golay spending end of week in Indianapolis with brother and family. Mrs A R Martindale will host family birthday dinner for Marjorie Jane on Sunday.
Last week saw a 0.6 point drop in the Composite Index, erasing prior gains and placing activity at the lowest level of 1936-17.9% below normal and 7.5% under the December Recovery Peak. Despite winter setbacks, some big industries like machinery and rail equipment raised orders, steel capacity hit 53.5%, and retail trade improved as weather moderated.
The Earlham Choir of forty voices under Rev Guyatt will sing at Lincoln High School auditorium this Sunday at 2 30 PM. Admission is free and the public is invited. The choir also performs at Dublin Friends church that evening at 7 15 PM.
Mrs. Sarah E. Huddleston marked her ninety first birthday quietly at her son Orie Huddleston’s home on Saturday. Leroy Huddleston of Indianapolis visited his mother for the day and she received many flowers cards candy and fruit from friends.
The Church of the Nazarene in Cambridge City announces a two week revival starting next Sunday March 15 at 7 30 p m with evangelists W W and Marguerite Littrell of Kansas City Mo. as special workers. W W Littrell has ten years in evangelism and pastored in Alliance Ohio. Mrs Littrell assists as singer guitarist and chalk illustrator. Each service offers something new and interesting. public is invited.
Tickets for the Sport Hop Friday March 27 at Lincoln High School are available from several hosts as the Psilota Xi sorority sponsors the event honoring the high school basketball team. Attendees from Milton area clubs and dances are invited to join the evening with honor guests from the school team.
Relatives surprised Mrs Ida Rhoades on her February 28 birthday, gathering with baskets and a pink trimmed two tier angel food cake as a centerpiece. Guests included Mr Elbert Williams and Mrs Williams of Dayton Ohio, Mr Charles Wiker of Richmond, Mrs Emma Miller of Hagerstown, Mr John H Miller and daughter Donna Jean of Millville.
Two benefit basketball games set for Friday night at Lincoln Gymnasium to aid the American Legion Auxiliary child welfare fund. At 7:30 the Western Wayne Methodist team faces the Richmond R C P H league’s strong colored squad led by former stars Sam Bennett and Henderson. In the main event the local Christian A quintet meets the Richmond Baking Co. team, Bakers having won the Richmond Industrial League this season. Admission 10 and 20 cents.
Mrs John Dyke rests comfortably after a severe break of the right arm near the shoulder from a fall at her east town home last week.
Mrs Ella Keever of Muncie spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs Helen Kuster. The visit highlighted neighborly ties in the community social scene.
