Charles Backenstoce aged 87 died at his Hagerstown home on March 2 after an illness of more than three months. Born in Centerville, he spent 68 years in business and was widely known as an honest man and good citizen. Survived by his widow and two daughters, funeral services were held last Friday with burial in Westlawn.
Mrs. Sam Abbott shows improvement after illness. Mrs. C. M. Peirce and daughter Vivian visited relatives in Huntington last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Griffin and family from Spiceland spent Sunday with Mrs. Mayme C. Wilson and family.
L. F. Miller spent a few days last week with his parents at Rushville. Faye Whipple came down from Fort Wayne and spent the weekend with her parents.
Mrs P H McGuire and her children John and Louise journey to Hobart Indiana for a week to visit her daughter Mrs C G Ringle and family. The trip follows a plan to spend time with relatives and enjoy the stay.
Mr and Mrs Carl Mercer and family of Connersville spent Sunday with her parents Mr and Mrs P H McGuire. Mrs James Cunningham left Saturday for Indianapolis to join her husband. They have taken a house at 4100 Winthrop Avenue and will make that their home.
George Butler of Indianapolis spent Thursday with his mother Mary Davis. Mrs. Helen Brown a nurse from Cincinnati spent last week as guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kerlin. Mrs. James Clark and Mrs. Lillian Lowery spent last Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Kinsinger west of Dublin.
Miss Helen Miller the daughter of Mr and Mrs Horace Miller north of town has accepted a position with Hays Track and Appliance Co of Richmond as assistant to the manager in the office.
Mrs Brice Peters hosted a one o clock luncheon last Thursday for her club. After dining, 500 was played at two tables with Mrs Robert Krone achieving the high score and Mrs R M Dearmin recording the low score.
W H Krone, Wm Judkins and Miss Daisy Ayler attended the opening of the new funeral home of W O Moore at Carthage on Saturday.
Mrs Nora Myers comes home Monday from Richmond where she nursed Mrs Mary Carey Dunn for nine weeks. Mrs Dunn has recovered enough to no longer require a nurse.

Eber Pickett died aged 90 on Thursday at the home of his daughter Mrs Rose Allen in Messick, Mary county. He was a native of Chester Virginia and lived in Cambridge City for years. His widow, a daughter and two sons survive.
Mrs Tillara Haas aged 86, mother of former townsperson E M Haas now in Richmond, died in Allentown on March. She had seven direct descendants and was known for frequent visits here.
Wilma Duff of aeriias City and 29 other students joined 31 freshmen who achieved 36 or more credit points in the first term at Muncie’s Indiananormal school. Only two freshmen reached 48 points, the peak possible.

The Frank Broaddus estate 160 acre farm in Pottershop Washington township sold at public auction at the First National Bank last Saturday afternoon. Calvin Beck was the successful bidder at 75 dollars per acre.
