Root Named Secretary of State Succeeding Hay

Richmond Indiana reports Elihu Root of New York has been appointed Secretary of State to succeed the late John Hay. President Roosevelt announced the appointment last week. General W W Blackmar, head of the Grand Army of the Republic, died at Boise Idaho during a Northwest inspection tour. The Roosevelt administration vows to expose injustice by any appointee and bear the disgrace. Minister Bowen’s charges against a predecessor cost him his usefulness and he leaves service.

Dublin Items Reflect Moves and Local Happenings

Mrs Martha Henley moved to Richmond last week and Mr and Mrs Claude Clifford moved to St Louis. Thieves have been active in Dublin but were unsuccessful. Frank Garthwait of Elwood visits relatives here. D P Demree painted for Thos Stanley in Dunkirk last week. The large apple crop is noted this year for Dublin. Rudolph Ellabarger of St Louis visited with Mrs Sophia Layman. Micajah Henley and sons rented the Santford Wilson farm for fall possession. Misses Lora Henley and Phoebe Henley, visiting from Monrovia, spent Sunday in Richmond. Junius Knipe and daughter Florence visit Oregon and California. J C McCurdy’s eyesight failing. he will go to Pittsburgh to see a specialist.

Thurman Williams of Locust Grove visited here Sunday. Children’s Day exercises are planned for Sunday evening followed by an address by Rev. Mosier of Indianapolis, president of the Y. P. A. An interesting program is promised and a large audience is expected.
