Lincoln Gipe Rites Planned for Longtime Engineer at Chase and Miller
Lincoln Gipe 78, retired Pennsylvania railroad engineer, died Saturday night after a lingering illness. Funeral services set for 2:30 Tuesday at Chase and Miller chapel with Rev. Dale Beatty officiating. Tipton Masonic lodge to conduct ritualistic rites. Burial in Mt. Hope cemetery, then to Cambridge City for interment. Survived by widow Flora, daughters Ruth and Marie Wells, two grandchildren, and sisters Cora Snyder Alice Bennett and Mrs. William Munro. Link Gipe, as he was known, retired August 1, 1929 after 51 years 4 months on the railroad with no accidents. Born 1860 in East Germantown Indiana, he started with Pennsylvania Railroad in 1878 and rose from track walker to yard engineer before 1889 beginning 40 years as passenger engineer Logansport to Cincinnati. He was a 50-year member of Tipton Masonic lodge.
