In New Orleans a dry goods merchant named Rougelot nearly died from strangulation. Doctor Joseph Danna and a quick thinking young man performed a tracheotomy using a pocket knife to open the airway and save the man’s life. The operation lasted under a minute and the patient began to recover.
Joey the young chimpanzee at London Zoo’s Jemur house goes jazz mad within minutes of arrival. He taps his feet and dances on a pole as ragtime whistling fills the air. Keeper recalls chimpanzees rarely show such terpsichorean mania and hints a calmer side is needed before a dancing partner is found.
Oaughdeney NY Cap Gorkey fished on the river but fell asleep in a shaded nook. He awoke to find his boat drifting downstream with a large turtle on the line. The turtle towed the boat about three miles before Cap reeled in the creature.

H R Hofford was elected by the county board of education to succeed J L Dolan as Wayne County agricultural agent. Hofford, endorsed by the County Farm Bureau and Purdue University, will earn 2450 dollars annually with a free office in the courthouse. Dolan’s three year term ended August 16. election results were 13 to 2 with no other candidates.
The city of Centerville contributed a $200 surplus from the Oliver P. Morton centennial fund to the Wayne county fair fund after centennial expenses. A committee chaired by Ora Dunbar voted to donate the money to the fair fund, with western towns contributing generously. The Dublin fair, oldest in the county, questions its share in the distribution.
The Wayne county Methodists gathered in Glen Miller on Wednesday last with about 600 attendees from fourteen churches. The program featured music athletics and a picnic dinner along with speeches by state Methodist workers. Cambridge City led attendance receiving a flag with Whitewater second and Grace Church Richmond third.
Memorial services for President Harding were held at the M E church with Rev. R E Coleman Rev D A Outland and Rev F C McCormick speaking. Mrs Fassett of Hutchinson and Mrs Jones hosted gatherings while Miss Ruth Klemm returned from Terre Haute and Ruth McCormick's shower drew Girls Club members. Burial details and several local visits are noted as well.

Miss Cleora Lawrence became the bride of Frank T Frohnapfel of Indianapolis in a Thursday eight o'clock ceremony at St Marys Catholic Church Ander son Rev Thomas Travers read the ring rite followed by a nuptial high mass Katherine Hodges played Lohengrin on the organist Katherine Kreusch. attendants included Mary Lawrence and Dolores Garvey with Doris Brockmyer flower girl The couple followed by a wedding breakfast then departed for a two month trip to northern Michigan and will reside in Indianapolis
During an early morning electrical storm the Howell family four miles north of town on the Dalton pike survived a lightning strike. The bolt hit the roof and tore newspapers to shreds on a bed upstairs while a walnut bed post and a splintered sheet were all that remained of the lower floor bed. Mrs Howell escaped injury though shaken, and the family rose to dress and leave, fearing fire, only to find no flames. No one was hurt as the event ended with a tense night.
