The Old Settlers 4H Club hosts a Centerville picnic on August 13th with many prizes. Children may enter their pets in competitions and registration details follow.

Babson Park Mass August 3 The railroads appear to have turned a corner with May bankruptcy fears easing in June carloadings rising from 500000 to about 600000 and a rate increase boosting annual revenues by about 100 million. Wage cuts feather bedding and cost savings are discussed as part of a plan to restore profits while warning the long term problems remain. A baseball caravan heads to Perry Stadium Indianapolis to honor Pete Chapman of Cambridge City playing with the Indians.

Louis Reed eight year old cousin of Mrs. Rowe from Richmond was bitten by a bear at Glen Miller park. He suffered a left leg amputation at Reid hospital to curb a deadly infection after the Friday attack.
Muskegon Michigan resident Mrs Huber Cox spent a week with her sister Mrs William Sowers and Mrs Frank Naegele in Richmond and returned home on Wednesday.
Miss Margaret Ann Paul of Indianapolis spent last Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Guyton for a social visit and daytime gathering.
Mrs J R Paul of Indianapolis formerly Miss Zoa Cornthwaite of this city has been taken to her home from Methodist hospital Indianapolis and is improving satisfactorily after a relapse following major surgery about three months ago.
Charles Kirlin plans to rebuild his dairy barn after a Thursday night fire. Cambridge City residents visit and attend gatherings with Huffman, Ferris, and Taylor families. Several couples and relatives share meals, attend funerals, and travel to Topeka, Anderson, and Washington D C. A funeral at Doddridge Chapel brings many relatives together.

At the American Legion Auxiliary meeting in the Legion hall officers were elected for the coming year led by president Mrs Fat Otte. Elected as first vice president was Mrs Noah Short and as second vice president Mrs Ivan Ohmit. Other officers include secretary Mrs Horace Reed treasurer Mrs Sanford Jacobs historian Mrs Thomas Graffis chaplain Mrs D R Reed and sergeant at arms Mrs George Morris. Delegates to the Tenth district meeting in New Castle and alternates to the State convention in Indianapolis were named.
The Junior Auxiliary of the American Legion elected officers for the coming year. Joan Graffis is president, Maxine R. Wickes vice president, Maxine Smith secretary, Edith Graffis treasurer, Dorothy Jean Snyder chaplain, and Virginia Ohmit sergeant at arms. The August meeting will be at sponsor Mrs. Sanford Jacobs home.

Mrs Robert McGuire and Cambridge City baby visited Earl Clingman family. Arthur Kimmel of Fort Wayne visited relatives. D C spent a week with the Misses Jane and Jane Henry. Gale Bowers and Fort Wayne family spent the weekend with her mother Maude Thurman.
Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Kirby and daughter Gretchen were honored at a Legion Auxiliary party in Dublin July 31 before moving to Hagerstown. The event featured a naval print plate gift, a True and False contest won by the women, and a homemade ice cream spread for about fifty guests.
The Kennedy family in Indianapolis, led by Martin J. Kennedy, consists of six sons and a daughter aged 6 to 15 who play brass and reed instruments. Trained since January by Ed Boyer, they perform well as a growing musical group. A Kennedy child was born to Mr and Mrs Kennedy on an unspecified date, and on August 4, 1938, Martin celebrated a birthday with family.

More than thirty young people from the Dublin Friends church left for a week at Dewart Lake. The campers include Raymond Cole Glen Cole Dorothy Henley Edith Chance Doris Hunnicutt Malcolm Layman Harold Hunnicutt Janet Hunnicutt and many others. They will return next Saturday. Local residents visited, hosted, or spent time with families across nearby towns, including Hagestown Cambridge City Richmond Greens Fork and Indianapolis. The Bid-A-Wee club held a cooperative dinner party at Mrs. Will's home.
