The U S Frigate Savannah reached the area from the Iceward and reports Stockton sailed for San Diego, which was retaken by Americans. Captain Grigsby arrived with twenty eight Sonoma troops to join Col. Fremont's encampment. Lieut Talbot's party, after surviving hunger and thirst, arrived near the San Joaquin valley after marching five hundred miles on foot with a sick comrade, earning praise for their march and steadfastness.
On Wednesday George Wallace and John Edwards were brought before Judge Colin for stealing money from the House of Mewr Colleghan. Both prisoners admitted the facts as stated by the evidence. Wallace claimed the money lay in two piles in the trunk. They were convicted of robbery and sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labor in the public works, with ball and chain.
