California War Ends as Fremont and Stockton Withdraw
Commodore Stockton and General Kearny entered Los Angeles January 10 with armed streets. After capitulations and desertions, Californians retire to Ranchos Del. Fremont plans entered Puebla on the 12th. Stockton and Kearny move toward Say Dies, war declared over. Californians to live under new order with protection and lenient treatment, though hundreds of horses were lost and many armed men remain skilled and wary of foreign forces.
