Letters describe illnesses from atmospheric pollution with coughing headaches and a deadened feeling. Mrs Ruth Steelman of Pasadena shares she paid for three months of medicine to survive the prolonged smog while urging doctors to take community responsibility beyond political posturing.
The Air Pollution Control District lifts its two day burn ban with a 2500 foot inversion keeping eye irritation mild in upper foothills. Pasadena posts the day’s top ozone at .27, Vernon peaks at 24, downtown LA at .21 as skies stay largely cloudy with a hint of sun late. Temperatures yesterday ranged 73 to 51 and today’s may differ little.
Pasadena officials report trash cans in parks are often unused and some have been stolen. City Park Superintendent Ronald B. Townsend cites missing cans as crews try to anchor remains and curb street litter with public cooperation. City Engineer Douglas C. Mackenzie adds frustration over nonuse of available cans.
Pasadena smog enforcement tests drew complaints as citizens were urged to halt all burning during a smog red alert while weeds burned along the Colorado Freeway near Annandale Golf Club. Officials cited contractor responsibility and local regulations, with no firm action promised and inquiries noted by Fire Marshal Stone.
