Military honors and injuries among Pasadena servicemen

State's Cities May Ask Share of Income Tax

California's 400 cities may seek a portion of income tax funding in coming years. At a League of California Cities meeting, Hayward Mayor John K. Smith warned of a looming $1 billion revenue gap for cities within four years. Tax reform, including income tax options, was urged alongside transfer of poverty funds and critique of rising property and nuisance taxes.

Jewish Center Razed by Fire in West Covina

The Citrus Valley Jewish Center at 641 N Sunset Ave West Covina was nearly destroyed by a fire that started around 2 a.m. The one story frame stucco building suffered heavy damage. Three engine companies a truck unit and a rescue squad fought the blaze for about an hour keeping it from spreading to the adjacent Colonial Manor Rest Home. Battalion Chief Reigh Hardin led the response. One firefighter sustained minor injuries.

Reagan Aims to Expand Local Government Voice in State Plans

Governor Reagan outlined a plan to give cities more say in state policy through an expanded role for the Council on Intergovernmental Relations as part of his executive reorganization. In prepared remarks to the League of California Cities, he warned that partnership programs with the federal government face danger from shifting Washington policies.

Vegedrol Pasiguia is due in Pasadena Municipal Court at 2 p m today on a stabbing charge connected with the Friday night fatal knifing at 880 Long Street in Altadena. Police identify 19 Michigare Ave resident Carlert Comper as held for arraignment. two other men are sought and one has been detained and released. Investigators say the killing of 25 year old Virgil Leon Garcia may have been over a girl.

R. R. Mitchell Appointed Duarte City Manager

Robert 2 Mitchell, currently Duarte city manager in Coachella, will assume Duarte duties on November 12 succeeding Robert Poff. The Coast Guard reported no word on the whereabouts of a New Port Beach family missing aboard a 40 foot yawl for 16 weeks. Robert Emigh 35 a nephew of Mrs Joseph Stout of Pasadena his wife Patricia and the couples three children were en route to Puerto Vallarta Mexico. They left San Diego Sept 25 and were last reported three days later at Cedros Island off the Baja California Coast as Pauline tropical storm swept the area.
