Wreckage Covers Railroad Victims
A Southern Railway passenger train on a blind curve rammed a freight train near Hazlehurst Georgia. At least five people died and 13 were injured, all crew aboard the passenger train and freight workers. Victims identified by State Sen Lawton Ursrey include Newt Askew and Bo J Johnson of Macon and others. Several injured were treated at Gollman Hospital and nearby Baxley.

Death Spares Boy Hiker Eight as Canyon Fall Injures Him
Sheriff's deputies report an eight year old Downey boy, Malcolm L Sellers, badly hurt after falling about 225 feet in a canyon during a church hiking group. He suffered concussion, possible internal injuries, bruises and facial injuries but no broken bones. Rescuers found him at 1 00 am and carried him out on a litter with aid from patrol members.
