Lee Craig William, 18, fell about 100 feet while hiking with Abs, Witham, and Aby near Vogel Canyon north of Big Tujunga. Rescuers, including a forest ranger and Mountain Rescue team, performed mouth to mouth resuscitation and oxygen but William died on arrival at Glendale Adventist Hospital. He suffered a shattered shoulder and skull fracture after slipping on rocks during the trek. Witham and rescuers later carried him out to a ranger station and hospital around 10:20 pm. The group had been on an overnight hike when the tragedy occurred around 6 pm.
Archbishop Joseph T McGucken ex Pasadenan was beaten and robbed Saturday night. He is hospitalized at St Marys with concussion and contusions and rests comfortably. The 62 year old archbishop was walking near his Pacific Heights residence when attacked. robbery was the motive and his rosary beads and key case were taken.
