Airliner Crash Near Kano Nigeria Kills Many

A British BOAC four engine air liner with 45 aboard crashed three miles north of Kano Airport in northern Nigeria. Thirteen survivors were badly burned and one stewardess Kay Buckley was killed. The plane was en route to Tripoli and London.

Admiral King Stricken in Critical Condition

Admiral Ernest J. King war time chief of naval operations was stricken with a heart ailment and rushed to Portsmouth Naval Hospital in critical condition. An initial rally gave way to circulatory and respiratory failure despite therapy. His son Lt Comdr Ernest J. King Jr. said it was heart failure from high blood pressure. King had not been in good health for some time.
