A family of five and two others perished in a farmhouse fire four miles north of Melean Alabama. A part time farmer and his wife and their three sons died in the blaze. A family friend staying overnight also perished in the fire.

In St Louis Missouri Mrs Dallas Akers struck a patrolman in the face with a hammer and told neighbors she meant to hit her husband’s spirit. Officer Joseph Saputo was summoned to the Akers home as tensions rose and Mrs Akers claimed the act was a mistake.
