Pasadenan Hero Rescues Flood Victims in Northern California
Army helicopter specialist James F. Hatcher, 20, of Pasadena, jumped into flood waters multiple times to save children and a man during Northern California floods. He swam 160 feet to reach two children at Geyserville, pulled them to safety, and later helped a man clinging to a pole and an elderly man from buildings as levees broke. Hatcher, part of the 521st Engineer Group Aviation Co, hails from El Molino Ave and plans a career in aero engineering with Northrop after service. His family includes a WWII pilot brother and a deputy sheriff sister.
