Three Airm en Killed as Runaway Jet Strikes Lincoln NAS

At Lincoln Naval Air Station a jet fighter ran amok on the flight line. Three airmen were killed and seven planes plus a hangar burned. Pilot Lt. (jg) Vernon Chapman Jr., 25, of Grand Island, a two year former active duty Air Medal recipient, was at the controls with Lt. Chapman identified as the crew leader. Remaining victims included Kenneth Cecil Newman and Tobert Lee Tracy, both of Lincoln, who were in the hangar when the Cougar jet roared to full power. The incident prompted page 35 coverage.

German Nationalists Sweep Vote in Saar

Three Americans Wounded in New Cyprus Terrorism

In Nicosia a terrorist attack at Quagmino's tavern injured fifteen people, including three Americans. Among the wounded were Mr and Mrs Robert Murphy of New York and a Mr Wheeler, workers at the US Consulate. The incident marked the bloodiest Sunday in months with seventeen hurt overall.

Altadena Death Jails Marine After Car Crash

In Altadena a deadly collision involved a suspected stolen car. Alan Donald Mackay, 37, of unknown address, died. Marines Lawrence C. Brown, 20, and Donald G. Gray, 21, both of Camp Pendleton, were arrested. two 17 year old girls were in the car with them. Brown alleged driver, Gray uninjured.
