Cook taking first prize, Mrs Nipee Goswan second, Mrs Ella Bond third, and Mrs Elston M. Harrison winning the consolation. The next meeting is set for March 4 at Mrs Isaac Baldwin’s Hanford place.
State Board of Taxation lists meetings with assessors and collectors in each county to explain the new worklogs effective December. The conference will be held in Court House at each county seat on March 4 to discuss non assessing time and collection under the act.
About one hundred attendees gathered for a lodge banquet including Masons and wives. Officers listed included Moses A Hoage John M Mead and others. The first Master Joseph D Mead of Manduria Florida was a charter member, with two other charter members Thomes T Speer Irvington and Parr K Stagg Newark still living.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Cadwell Presbyterian Church met at Mrs. Wilbert Goulds home on Hillside avenue Caldwell for an all day session. Nearly fifty guests dined at noon then sewed and enjoyed an afternoon program with piano solos recitations vocal duets and quilting. The next meeting will be March 1 in the church lecture room with a focus on making comfortables.
A Library Tea hosted by Mrs. Edmund R Lake at Bloomfield Avenue on Tuesday March 1 at 3 PM features a program led by Mrs H P Batley president of the Orange Woman's Club speaking on the George Junior Republic. Performers include Mrs Howard E Wright pianist Miss Eatelle N Crasto elocutionist Miss Carrie Louise Jacobus soprano Mrs Harrison Budd pianist. Mrs E R Laine president Caldwell Woman's Club notes the event benefits the town library with admission a bound volume or its money value.
The final whist night of the series at Association Hall Caldwell, under the Borough Improvement Association, drew twelve tables. Women’s prizes went to Mrs Jeane Eh Baldwin, Miss Viola Sornell, and Mrs Albert Wrerich. men’s prizes to Harry Rudolph, Stephen J Speer, and Dr Phineas Bridge of Montclair. Demand for more play prompts a follow up on Monday March 7 at 8 PM.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel E Gould of Campbell avenue Caldwell observed their sixteenth wedding anniversary on Saturday night. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. G A Britton, Mrs. C D Jacobin, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Rickey, Mr. and Mrs. G Cabies, Mrs. W Cabies, Mrs. C Van Ness, Charles Jacobus and Miss Jacobus, Miss F Ward, Miss A Gould, Peter Briscoe and Benjamin Van Riper. The evening featured several vocal and instrumental music selections and the couple received numerous handsome and useful presents.
Subscriptions for Mountainmdle Hospital for February have been received from Mrs. H. M. Benham Mrs. Arthur Butler Mrs. Travis of Cald and Mrs. Benjamin Kent of Essexville. Donations may be sent to Mrs. E. E. Burd or Mrs. J. S. Chittersleg, members of the Board of Governors.
Mrs John Hyer of Roseland entertained a large party of relatives and friends Monday for her husband birthday anniversary. A luncheon was served at noon and in the evening guests visited Preston Williams home for a Martha Washington supper. They then went to Caldwell for a whist party at Association Hall.
Caldwell Council 214 Junior C U A M observes its seventh anniversary in Association Hall on Thursday evening March 3. Entertainment will feature Albert Forrest M Coder Miss Sadie Genung vocalist La Strange impersonator Hottnad and Van with silent pictures and illustrations.
Miss Huff, Miss Vanderhoff, and two others escaped a fatal crossing disaster when a horse drawn wagon trundled onto a deep trench. Williams and Busch pulled the girls to safety as a locomotive struck the cart. no gates existed and a flagman offered no warning as the team crossed.
The second in the assembly dance series was held Friday night at Association Halls with numerous attendees including Mr and Mrs C Wilfred Hunter and others. Patronesses were Mrs Hunter Mrs Baldwin and Mrs Cook and music was by Harry Westervelt. The final dance is set for Friday night March 18.
Fire at Fairfield last week Wednesday gutted the Frank Gunderman home estimated to have started from a defective flue. The ill family members were rushed from the large newly built house with all furniture lost and some patients later taken to friends for care as exposure worsened their condition.
Miss Tillie Hoch of Trenton visits her mother Mrs J Hoch. Mrs Charles H Fund convalesces. Miss Minnie Collins of Hibernia visits Mr and Mrs Pell T Collins. A tea and donation party at the Baptist Church honors Rev William R Burrell who became pastor January 31.

Total receipts 12424.41 include county tax 9131.32 Caldwell school borough tax 1386.00 township and school orders 5633.58 and miscellaneous 836.47. A plan of 2236.04 against 3010.24 exists for the previous year.
A bank near Rosewood Avenue was robbed by three men who forced the front door and drilled into the safe with tools. Officer Harkey pursued the fugitives as alarms sounded, and a bystander was wounded by a revolver shot. Police later secured experts to open the damaged safe, with rewards anticipated for Harkey and bank officials.
A Sewing Society event at Mr. Preston Williams's Harrison Avenue home raised funds and spirits. Lewis Patton and Florence Patton impersonated George and Martha Washington. The next gathering will be an all day event at Mrs. Melanchton Jr Courter’s Bloomfield Avenue residence on March 10 as fair preparations begin.
An entertainment for the Livingston High School Baseball Club is set for Saturday evening in Collin's Hall with recitations songs and instrumental numbers. Tickets cost twenty cents for adults ten for children. rain would push the event to Saturday evening March fifth.

Peter Sinvirud, former amateur speedskating champion of the Verova Lake Skating Club, swept four events at the world championships held in Canigugna on February 6 and 7. He defeated rivals Gundersen Mathiesen Steen Rohse and Olaf Hansen, though the ice was soft and records were hard to set. Sinvirud won the 500 metres in 48.14 seconds, the 5400 metres in 9 minutes 24.25 seconds, the 1200 metres in 2 minutes 34.45 seconds, and the 10000 metres in 10 minutes 35.45 seconds, securing the world title despite the subpar conditions.

George W. Kiefer died Thursday morning at three o clock at his son Henry Kiefer s home 225 Franklyn street Bloomfield He was born in New York City and moved to Verona about forty years ago He leaves two sons and two daughters The funeral will be held Sunday at two o clock at his son s residence in Bloomfield
