Invention Aims to Save Float Gold in Ore Processing
A historical report describes Charles Secor's steam assisted ore treatment to recover float gold from quartz. The process uses a covered pan with steam at 20 to 90 pounds pressure to heat mercury and release float gold, then steam ceases to allow amalgamation. The method treats one ton charges with high pressure for 1–2 hours before continuing.
