Late Acquisition Spur Lode in Sunanit Valley District
The Packard brothers and partners located the Sunanit Valley lode in 775 and began sinking in October. Five shafts reach 44 feet with a 140 foot level, yielding ore averaging 130 to 140 per ton with water present. Estimated ore reserves run 2000 to 3000 tons, potentially valued near a million dollars after costs. Operations are run by owners and involve water handling and limited surface work.

Butte Fourth of July Plans by Harmony Club and Lodges
The Harmonia Glee Club will sing for the Fourth of July crowd in Butte. Deer Lodge Cornet Band is being sought for services, with Deer Lodge boys to join. Marmonte Society with 96 members will parade with banner and drum. Masonic Owl and Cool Temper Lodges invited to join procession. Meeting at Chaspentice Hall to review committee reports tonight at 8. Soliciting committee has raised over $800 and aims higher. The Arrangements Committee proposes July activities including sunrise formation on Main Street, reading of the Declaration, a grand dance free to all.

A citizens meeting is noted at Charpentier’s Inn this evening. Dr C B Whitford plans an office on Broadway west of Charley Warren’s. Rev M N Gilbert of Deer Lodge will hold schoolhouse services Thursday at 8 pm. Grubb & Wolf report a promising mine south of Oro Fine Gulch with high silver values.

Mining News From Basin and Jefferson Territory
Reports from Basin Gulch and Rocker Gulch show placer and lode mining active despite four feet of snow. Assayer Bol in Virginia City yields two gold bricks valued at 200 and 400 dollars. Rumsey mine near Jefferson attracts attention as a promising prospect with lower level 130 feet long and 16 feet high, ore grades averaging 175 and 48 per cent lead. Peter Petersen dies from complications after a mining accident. River water levels approach the 1873 high watermark at Missoula.

Benton Coach Swept Away From Little Prickly Pear
From Mr. Al Fisher information that last Thursday the Benton coach was carried away by the Prickly Pear River near Kisselpaugh. The two horses drowned the coach wrecked the mail sacks and treasure box lost. Captain D W Buck survived by jumping clear and later described a rapid current and bank cave.
