High Precare Steam and Its False Promise in Engine Work

In mechanical engineering the past year has yielded few novelties and more wasted effort chasing high pressure steam as a fuel saver. Expansion gains depend on terminal pressure, not initial pressure, and practical limits around eight pounds per square inch curb expansion benefits. Isherwood showed expansion raises consumption, condenser effects hinder large expansion, and Watt’s condenser equals longer single cylinders rather than true separate condensation.
