Two men from Augusta Maine built a device to suction gold from river bottoms. A large pipe lowers, fills with water and air, then creates a vacuum to lift mud, stones, and gold. The system uses an engine, valves, and a circular intake covered by iron, capable of recovering two to four tons per lift, with atmospheric pressure aiding the operation.
