Reports from Balltown in Washington Parish Louisiana show thirty people, whites and Blacks, fatally harmed amid a racial clash. A Black man known as Bill Morris was burned at the stake for harming a white woman, sparking violent reprisals and calls for troops from Governor Heard. Troops were ordered to Balltown as details trickle in from a remote region near the Pearl River, with clashes continuing and Black residents patrolling the area. The unrest follows a deadly mob action and ongoing surveillance across the Mississippi border.
Warrensburg Star reports C. W. Brown alias S. D. Cartwright captured Saturday in Macon City after stealing a horse from J. P. Whitfield of Sedalia and suspected in Pleasant Hill Holden and Sedalia thefts. He arrived in Sedalia Wednesday. horse found hired in Sedalia. Identified by J. B. Whitfield and Lee Rathberman who traveled with Sheriff Koch. The Carthage Democrat urges restraint in criticizing Gov. Stone, calling abuse unpersuasive.
