Dr Amos T Baker acting superintendent of Matteawan testified in the Thaw case that Thaw is insane and dangerous to public safety if at large He described Thaw s movements before the shooting and his discussions of epilepsy and nervous ailments of his sister and aunt Baker noted Thaw s age and claimed some doctors exaggerated his condition He said Thaw spoke of a house planned by Stanford White and others to have him confined to an asylum He claimed Helen Gould referred him to Anthony Comstock and that detectives watching White warned of danger from him

Kansas Storm Kills Widow and Child in Farm Home
A severe storm near Arawatomie Kansas between 2 and 3 AM wrecked the Johnson farm five miles from town. Minnie Johnson and her two year old son died when the house toppled. A 14 year old daughter was seriously injured but may recover. The house was the only one blown down and neighbors found all three after daylight.

A well dressed man claimed authority to test cows for tuberculosis near Algona Iowa. He persuaded a farmer to allow testing and then to sell cows he said reacted. An elderly buyer purchased about 15 per head, and only later did the farmer realize he was swindled. The tale warns to beware strangers and verify claims before trusting anyone with livestock.

Oklahoma Senators Fight in State Senate
In Gaothrie Oklahoma on May 18 a free-for-all in the State Senate left Senator Eck Brook with a jaw blow, Senator Reuben M. Roddie with a black eye, Senator J. S. Morris with a skinned nose, and Senator Bill Johnson with a bruised head after accusations over the Central Normal Edmond appropriation bill. Roddle said Western senators defeated the east side normals measure, while Morris denied it and pressed on with his remarks.
