On May fifth about 3 10 am passenger train No 11 on the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific struck cattle near Unionville Iowa derailing the engine and four cars and sending them down a twenty foot embankment Engineer Peter Blake the oldest on the Rock Island system was killed almost instantly Fireman Jason Engle was seriously injured Blake ran the first train on the southwest division and had no prior serious wrecks Remains were brought to Trenton for burial

Jetington Missouri May 6 Reverend W pastor of the Southern 1st church assisted by Rev M Williams and Rev C M Bishop conducted memorial services yesterday for Lieutenant T M Cobb who died at Honolulu. Cobb was a Wentworth Military Academy graduate and the cadet corps turned out in force, filling the church as young ladies from local colleges attended. The crowd was deeply moved by the farewell.
Rev John Claypool L Staker A G Metzler and B Cullison fished all day last Tuesday reporting a glorious time and a fine catch. Cullison boasted an immense bass while the others were satisfied with smaller fry. Messrs T B McHenry A J Clor Carl Brown and Dr Watts of Worland visited last Saturday shaking hands and making new acquaintances. Amos Loyd the jolly blacksmith showcases first class work. Dr A H Rodes left for Chicago for pleasure and profit and expects to be away about a month. Friends of Miss Minty Jennings, recently ill, rejoice at her improvement and speedy recovery. Miss Minnie Hannaman now employed in the millinery shop of Mrs W R Wilson. Mrs A Skillman departed for Galent Kansas. her daughter Mattie will follow in a week of 80. A group of young ladies, guided by Arthur Doke and Gus Trussell, went to Walnut Creek for fishing and snacks. they reported plenty of bites but mosquitos as the fish were scarce. John R Lowry returned from El Dorado Springs and may move there due to Mrs Lowry's health. Mrs W R Wilson organized a Sunday School at Old Walnut last Sunday. CHO nan

Washington May 6 Captain D Sigsbee chief intelligence officer has filed formal application to command the battleship Maine upon completion. The Maine is expected to be ready for service in 1903.
In Petersburg West Virginia on May 5 at Bismarck a union joined 81 year old Polly Moreland with 35 year old Grant Burgess. The couple, longtime friends, wed in a pure love match as Burgess’s prosperity and Moreland’s comfort frame the domestic union.
