The largest rain of the season fell Thursday night and Friday morning. Kom Murray and Jack Milligan plan to open a blacksmith shop soon. Walter Smith traveled to Clinton last Wednesday and returned Thursday. F. M. Port and wife made a quick trip to Butler last week. Keisey is stepping high now. a girl was born last Friday. Berry Harris and Mrs. Hooper show improving spirits. An earlier item misnamed Kepner instead of Keisner. Neighbors discuss trips to Butler for the Fourth. Cats have fared badly after the rains. A niece of W. D. Keirsey and wife is visiting. All visited in South Ballard Sunday. Pat is asked about mineral water chipeyacgeen the purpose as a mind to Monegaw. Gibbs visits his father. Haying will start soon. Geo Parish works for Teeter. Mrs. Daisy Hendrix remains very low. T. H. Lynch went to Clinton, Berk, to Adrian Smith on Monday to purloins? for M. W. A. Supper Tuesday night. Mr. West went to Clinton Saturday and Sunday. Embree and Tom Douglas counted the examination at Fairview Saturday. Four participants, and we hear they did fairly well.

Washington notes list of actions Congress failed to enact including Cuban relief, a national defense bill, a general staff, consular reform, tariff revision, trusts regulation, and a Commerce Department. It contrasts with passed measures such as canal bills, a river and harbor appropriation, public works, irrigation, pensions, oleomargarine ban, war tax repeal, ship subsidy, Chinese exclusion, bankruptcy, White House remodeling funds, and large appropriations. The session could end by July 15.
Reports from the Southwest recount two deadly encounters. In New Mexico a 12-year-old boy named Thomas Page, after hiding behind rocks, allegedly killed six Indians who had killed his father and looted a house. he has been taken to a reservation. From Springs, 300 miles northeast of El Paso, Bud Lee, claiming Virginia Lees lineage, fends off an ambush by eight cowboys. Lee says he killed five and forced three to flee, then surrendered to the sheriff.
The Senate passed the Spooner amendment by 42 to 34, adopting the Panama route over Nicaragua in the Isthmian canal bill. Congress is split as the House nears its decision, with the Burn Nicaragua bill already passed and Hepburn bill contested. The next action hinges on whether the House insists or yields to Senate dictates.
Rome June 13 the pope has accepted the whole American proposition on the Philippines after a committee report was reviewed. Governor Taft and members of the mission were guests of Rector Kennedy at luncheon at the American College.
In Bnum elawa King County on the Northern Mayne road forest fires threaten Tacoma area town. Water works burned, winds gale, damage to timber and buildings over 100000 dollars. About 40 women and children cut off by the blaze suffer heat and smoke as twenty buildings and a large mill burn.
Tacoma dispatch reports the city fire department sent men engines and hose on a special train toward Buckley in King county to combat spreading forest fires between Buckley and Emamelawa. A smoke cloud hangs over Tacoma thirty five miles away and many campers and loggers may be in peril.
At a Charles Ligon farm eight miles from Liberty Missouri two men Alonzo Roy and Mel Grider descended a day well in a six foot diameter tub. Roy was killed instantly when the rope knot failed and the tub dropped forty eight feet. Grider injured and expected to die. John Willis at the bottom escaped injury. Roy from Plattsburg and Grider from Hancock Tennessee.
Charles D. Warner, 24, son of Major W. R. Warner the US district attorney and past grand commander of J A T T, was found dead in a Southwest Boulevard rooming house with three morphine bottles on the dresser. He had been drinking and was dead for hours. He leaves a widow and one child while pursuing medical studies.
Sheriff Guthrie arrived from Texas with James Dalton, believed killer of Sheriff Batterson four years ago. Dalton is confined in the cell he escaped from. A large crowd gathered at the station and heavy guards protect the jail to deter possible lynching amid high excitement.
Mrs. A. M. Shields of Chambersburg describes how six months of severe sickness nearly left her with consumption but she recovered after using Dr. King’s New Discovery. The cure is praised for throat and lung diseases and is available in trial bottles from A. L. Tacker’s drug store.
