Butler Commercial Club Plans October Street Fair and Visit Trips
At a Tuesday night session the Butler Commercial Club approved an October 1917 street fair and homecoming and tasked D K Walker H G Cook and Paul B Levy to set a date for report next meeting. Ten dollars was voted to the Surgeons Dressing Association of Butler to buy dressings for wounded soldiers. The club also planned country trips this summer and fall with meals to be provided by local churches or civic groups at each stop. Dr Hull, president, arranged the first meeting for Thursday at 8 pm with Virginia M E church ladies serving cream and cake for fifteen cents. Judge Calvird spoke on the flag and Judge Henry on patriotism, followed by remarks from Mrs. W D Stanley of the Surgeons Dressing Association. The meeting closed after bills were paid.

The Masonic Bi centenary celebration on June 25 grows larger and more interesting with two candidates for the third degree to be conferred after supper. A large crowd is anticipated and attendees are urged to bring a basket of grub.
