Sale of Butler Madison Stock in Missouri Pacific
The Missouri Pacific line from Butler to Madison used bonds worth 45000 issued by Potosi township to build the road, receiving equal stock in exchange. Held by Fred Wagner, a long-time township treasurer, the stock recently sold for 7,000 cash at 20 cents on the dollar after weeks of consideration. Reports say many towns are buying up outstanding stock as the railroad plans more bonds and seeks to call stock, with townships selling at the same price as this case.

Missouri Leads In Sheep Growth And Value
Missouri reports nine hundred thousand sheep on its pastures up from 500000 five years earlier. The state had the largest sheep investment in 1908 among neighboring states, with 300000 more sheep than Illinois or Iowa. The Missouri Sheep Breeders Association is the world’s largest, and the average value per head has risen markedly in four years. The board cites cheap land, low feed costs, low disease risk, and favorable markets as key advantages for sheep raisers.

Missouri railroads demur in ouster suit
Seven of Missouri’s eighteen proprietary railroads fled the ouster suit filed by Attorney General Major and demurred in the Supreme Court arguing the agreement among them is not contrary to law. The case charges an unlawful combination to fix six passenger rates, a ruling that could drive Missouri’s great railroad lines from the state.
