Ten head of cattle owned by Judge B. Hudson were killed by lightning on pasture east of National Cemetery. The herd, nine yearlings and one cow, lay near a wire fence when discovered at sundown. The cattle were valued at about 200 dollars.
A possum forced its way into Miss Zse Atchinson’s store on the east side of the square causing panic among the millinery workers who fled to chairs. An elderly passerby chased it out, and the animal showed fight during capture. Origin unknown.

A blaze at the N. J. Stephens home near Nevada Mississippi County left Lucy Bowers 17 and Roy Stephens 5 dead. Mrs. N. J. Stephens, mother of one victim, was badly injured and not expected to live. The disaster followed a kerosene accident as Lucy tried to hasten the kitchen fire.
Wade Ellis Ohio attorney general has been summoned to Washington to confer with Attorney General Bonaparte about the vacant assistant to the Attorney General post. Ellis has not yet been offered the appointment, which requires Senate confirmation and may come from Washington or Oyster Bay.
A fierce morning fire at 10 o clock swept the commodious barn of Mr Chas Burrows and a nearby storehouse in the fashionable city district. Firemen battled flames near corner 4th and Olive with good pressure and clear river water. Loss to barn and contents total about 500 dollars with 300 dollars insured in a Prowell company.

This year he met with Mr. Bryan at Lincoln and announced he will stump for him this fall, per the Henry County Democrat.

The Ohio State Journal reports another sea serpent sighting seen near the Gulf of Mexico at three bells on June 24. The 200 foot creature lay 60 feet from the Liton’s port bow and awakened to glide away after a 15 minute sighting, with witnesses swearing to the event.
Nevada Post reports orders from the postal department to withhold delivery of dunning cards bearing warnings to call or be at home. The notices are deemed nonmailable under section 498, since bans or bills must be enclosed, and reminders like those cited are considered dun.
