Saved His Boy By Sucking the Wound Made by a Snake Bite
J D Bowen and his son Jesse were walking near their home two miles south of town when a head viper bit the boy in the heel. The father stopped the blood flow by seizing the ankle and sucking the punctures, drawing venom from the wound. After returning home the boy received whiskey and soon showed no serious effects. Nevada Post reports the incident.

Bank Robbery in Stroud Bank Averted
Three masked men tried to rob Stroud State Bank in Oklahoma early this morning. They bound Amos Seaton and Earl Heath, injected nitro into the safe three times, causing explosions that wrecked the safe but the money vault remained untouched. The robbers stole watches and a small sum, then returned Heath’s keepsake watch.

Nevada Man Hangs Self After Fatal Mowing Day Incident
In Nevada Missouri James Watson’s employee Jesse Richardson tied a rope to his neck and ankle and attached it to a horse. The pair fled home dragging Richardson two miles over rocks and stumps, resulting in his death. Weather had been extreme with over 100 degrees for ten days, possibly triggering temporary insanity.

Boys Burned to Death in Shed Fire
In Louisiana Missouri on July 6 Sam Taylor aged 4 and Don Nichols aged 5 died in a shed fire likely started when they played amid coal oil and gasoline. The door was shut trapping them as flames consumed the shed and their bodies were found charred. Sam Taylor was the son of a local businessman. Don Nichols was the son of a missionary in China visiting with his mother en route back to China.

Negro Wife Murderer Hanged in Carthage Missouri
Ernest Ried, a colored man, was hanged in Carthage on July 5 for the murder of his wife on June 19, 1900. Convicted of first degree murder, he exhausted appeals and Gov. Dockery denied further clemency. Ried faced execution with religious remarking he died like a man. clergy Ward Abbott and A. Hughes attended. The trap sprung at 10:19, and death occurred seven minutes later.
