Prisoners in the county jail attempted a noonday escape. Jailer Klapton was injured when Jesse Jones seized him as the prisoners broke through a doorway. Jones later died in hospital. Bloodhounds pursuing the escapees include Harry Folgom, Samuel Blain, and Andy Rogers. Klapton, once a stage driver, is praised for subduing the others and keeping guard until deputies arrived.
