Nashville Tenn February 17 Bishop James Atkins urged unity of the northern and southern Methodist branches and proposed a million dollar expenditure to push union. He favored a new church name such as Episcopal Methodist church or United Methodist church of America and a general council with four regional bodies to supervise jurisdiction and local concerns including race. Also mentions DeWitt's Little Early Risers pills from Clay's drug store north side square.

Jefferson City February The House passed a bill from Representative Hill of Butler county prohibiting witnesses in State against corporations from refusing to testify or produce papers on the plea of self incrimination. Such witnesses are immune from prosecution for matters revealed by their testimony or papers produced. Hill’s bill legalizes prohibitions on trusts combinations and restraints of trade and was also passed.

The Senate voted 42 to 28 to keep Reed Smoot, an Apostle of the Mormon Church, in its membership. San Antonio spectators watched Oscar Smith known as the boy bronco buster dive to his death riding Doctor Carver’s Powderlacs as it leaped from a forty ton platform into a fourteen foot pool. The horse surfaced alone and Smith’s body was recovered after twenty minutes.
