Foster items report a well attended Laughlin-Waller sale on the 14th with prices strong. Local social and church notes include Rev. Cockrell at the Christian church and Leap Year Day anniversary for D. H. Arbogast. Several residents travel, visit relatives, or prepare for spring farming as community events continue.
Eastern Bates community items report visits by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Atkison from Boise Idaho, auctions, illnesses, and family updates. Local residents attend social events including a Valentine social with oysters cake and music. Several families relocate or travel, with health concerns for Uncle Benny Young and Dr. Fuell’s patient improving. Weddings are noted as rare and leap year advice appears. Liberty area.
On the Wing, Grover McCoy of Peru visited his brother in law E E Jenkins from Saturday evening to Monday morning. About half of Tom Grimsley’s family is sick, a physician was called. E E Jenkins has three children. Dukes, the coal mine man on the Miami, sold his farm to a man from California. Cyrus Nestlerode's wife and three children visited his father from Saturday evening to Monday morning. Tom Burton emigrated for western Kansas, where his brother Ellis Burton lives, Sunday morning via Kansas City. Charley Dickerson will take charge of the county farm and inmates 1st day of March. The Mount Vernon neighborhood reports a fine time with Tom Bruner and family prior to their move from Elkhart to Mound. Mrs Spillman and two daughters visited Newt Spillman on Sunday. Hazel Dukes attended church at Mount Vernon schoolhouse. Ina Bailey and Bessie Allen visited Newt Spillman and Mrs Dick McGuire, with Bailey taking some of Dick’s soil on her hands.
Byron Clossen and family began their move to California on Monday visiting Iowa first. The Cain and Clossen sale drew a large crowd last week with good prices. Perry Hoyle and family moved to the former Clossen home. The Bond sale drew a large attendance and many items sold. An entertainment at Ty gard school house by Mrs Bond’s Sunday School class featured several performances. The Clossen child fell ill last night.
