FUEL CONSERVATION REGULATIONS ISSUED FOR BATES COUNTY

County Administrator Harper issues rules requiring wheat flour substitutes with every pound sold and two staged sale limits. From February 1 to 15, substitutes must accompany purchases. after February 15 equal weight substitutes must be sold. Purchasers may certify current substitutes on hand, with certificates signed and filed. Limitations include 48 pounds to city customers and 98 pounds to rural buyers. penalties may cut supplies. Stallion License Rules Set by Missouri Registry Board

Missouri Stallion Registry Board requires every stallion owner to obtain a license certificate. Pure bred, cross bred, and scrub stallions must submit breeding papers or affidavits, with a $1 license fee. Poultry Meeting in Butler to Elect Officers and Plan Show

Bates County Poultry Association meets at Butler court house Saturday February 16 at 2 00 pm. Officers to be elected for the coming year and decision on a poultry show next winter. Missouri Bay is First U. 5. Flyer to Bag German Plane

Lieutenant Stephenson Thompson of West Plains Missouri, 23, a U S Army aviator, shot down a German plane over Saarburg during a raid. It was his first combat mission and he froze his hands while landing. Thompson trained in France with French aviators after enlisting last summer.

Suffragists Fail to Close Senate Gap on Amendment

In Washington on February 9, the Senate postponed action on the woman’s suffrage constitutional amendment until enough votes are assured. Senator James of New Mexico, chair of the suffrage committee, declined to predict timing, saying sentiment is crystallizing and success appears likely. The President supports the measure, and supporters still need four votes.

Six drafted men to go soon from Bates County

The Local Exemption Board, under Col J H McCord, orders six Bates County men to mobilization camp on February 23 or soon after. They will fill the county quota on first call, with twenty men still to be sent. Pending District Board decisions on appeals, a definite list cannot be announced. Trotsky says he mistrusts the Allies.
