Seven Sailors Frozen in Rescue at Fire Island

Two men survived forty hours clinging to rigging of schooner Louis V. Place, wrecked off Fire Island during a January gale. Nelson of Providence R I and German Willan Stevens of Rockland Me endured exposure. Stevens assisted Nelson until midnight rescue by Lone Hill life saving crew under Captain Baker. Chicken Thief Killed Near Newkirk Oklahoma

John Dunbar, a member of a regional thieves gang, was shot and killed by John Sheets, a farmer near Newkirk, in a midnight incident after disturbance at a chicken coop.
