Fulkerson deemed insane after Stenographers' Union banquet
Sam W. Fulkerson organizer of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Stenographers was judged insane and placed in the state asylum at St. Joseph after a campaign culminating in a banquet at the Midland hotel. He had founded the union with about sixty members and later invited allies via messenger service, but failed to pay for the banquet and services. He had previously been an inmate at a Reno asylum and was taken into custody by humane officer J. C. Greenman.
