A homesick note on The Times recalls readers in Virginia and nearby towns. The column lists residents, visits, illnesses, births, moves, and farm ads. Notable items include birthdays, shipments, new babies, moved houses, and a rural mail route update along with church notices and local church gatherings.
Public auction to sell the Johnson place two miles south of Amoret on Saturday February 11 1911. Items include 8 horses 5 head of cattle 23 hogs farm implements hay feed and grain and other articles. Terms cash under 10 and 12 months on larger sums with 6 percent interest and 4 percent cash discount. Sale at 10 o clock lunch served by Ladies Aid Society of Amoret Christian church. Auctioneers C E Robbins and others. Newspaper notes add local updates from Rainbow locality.
Henry Dykeman shipped a car of hogs and made a business trip to Kansas City. John Hensley also sent a car of fat porkers to Kansas City. Amoret residents visited in Butler and Linn County with various friends and relatives over the weekend.
Weather good and roads improving as residents report plowing, cattle buyers and Baker family hog trade continue. Chas Baker ships hogs to North Carolina. Mrs Baker hosts visitors. George Baker sells horses for mules. Local sickness fades after a rough winter. John Goggle returns to mobility. a large Thursday literary crowd gathers. RAMBLER.
Foster News notes visitors from Parsons and Worland, a box supper at Old Walnut earns about seven dollars, and local marriages connect Myrtle Rankin to C J Mullis and Cora Queen to R H Ferrell. Local illness includes Kennie and Havely cases, with several others on the sick list. Charley Havely returns from Kansas City for further treatment. Notices list patrons and teachers meeting, a corn demonstration by E. E. Laughlin and sons, and a sale of farm gear with terms and auctioneers Miller & Youngberg. Lunch served by Everett Christian Church ladies.
Pleasant Gap reports show Jess Campbell's wife caring for her aunt in Montrose, Bruce Haskins with his uncle at Rich Hill, and Will Williams with Joe Haskins. A boy was born to Dr and Mrs Compton, with multiple social visits to Dr Cumpton. Mrs Hasking and Alex Naftia with sons Oscar and Zelva encounter a frightened team near an automobile. Regular trips and visits to Butler noted, plus a Missouri boy reference and a Sam's Levy cloth offer.
Local notes report Missouri continuing dry weather with only sporadic showers. Community updates include Francis Godwin returning to school after a broken arm, visits from Charley Steward, health notes on Mr. Brown and Mrs. Guy, and several relocations and family events. A baby boy arrives at Dr. Miller’s home while plans for garden work and a Ballard central return are noted.
Public sale at W. F. Miller's known as the Wm Stone farm nine miles northwest of Adrian and three miles southwest of Everett on Monday February 6 1911 at 10 a m. Described property includes seventy head stock twelve horses and mules and twenty-two hogs plus cattle calves grain and seed.
Auction lists include mules cattle hogs and horses from two farms with dates February 7 1910 and February 14 1911. Goods for sale cover a wide range of livestock including mares mules cattle hogs and draft stock plus 1200 bushels of corn and hay. Terms cash or nine months with interest and cash discounts. Lunch served.
At the annual meeting in the circuit court room Bates County Poultry Association elected A. O. Yeoman as president S. W. Dooley and M. R. Lyle as vice presidents Mrs. A. R. Guyton as secretary and treasurer C. H. Burgess, J. J. McKee, and Miss Austin Rosser as directors. Entry fees set for the next exhibition and the show date to be the last week in November or first week in December 1911. The association will join the American National Poultry Association. E C Branch of Lee's Summit gave a speech on poultry after adjournment.
R H Farrell and Miss Dora Queen both of Foster and C J Mullies of Foster and Miss Myrtle Rankin of Collyer Kans were married at the office of Recorder of Deeds in this city Wednesday evening January 25 1911 W W Ross officiating.
