War Tax Bill Passes and Reversals on Express Tax
Washington December 15 The House reversed a committee action on the freight and express receipt tax amendment as the war reduction bill passed. Smith’s amendment restored the tax on express receipts and changed the section to make the company pay. The amendment spurred a lively debate and prompted a personal allusion to a U.S. senator connected with an express company. The amendment passed yesterday by 106 to 0 and was reversed today.
