Odd 1828 Lancaster School Board Railed at Railroads
An 1828 Lancaster Ohio school board document records a debate group seeking use of the schoolhouse for discussions on steam railroads and telegraphs. The board rejected the idea as unholy, claiming rail travel at fifteen miles an hour was impossible and sinful.
