Various railway round-trip ticket sales announced for Missouri State Fair, Pythias encampments, Ancients, and national events with sale dates and return limits.
Dry weather prevails and corn appears shortened. James and Andrew Blakey are in the area on business. Threshing winds down as the season ends. Sam Peeler offers a cart for sale. O L Hously can walk without a cane. A glee club forms among good people to sing for Cleve and Steve. Peeler returns from the west. Sunday school picnic planned at Baptist church on Sept 2, inviting all schools. A prairie youth group went to Monegaw last week. Mrs Mary Williams is ill. Coal banks opening up with a rush.
Aug 29 Guthrie sheriff J Hixon fatally shot S M Scott after Scott resisted arrest for a wanted forger. Scott fled into an alley firing at Deputy Hindman, then at Hixon who ordered him to stop. Scott, described as desperate, had a long criminal history.
