Cobb's Ashes Buried at Lexington After Young Soldier's Services
Last rites for Lieutenant Thomas M Cobb of the Thirty-ninth Infantry were held in Lexington Missouri with prayers by Judge John E Rice and a sermon by Horace Dell. Cobb, a Kansas newspaper man aged 25, died in Honolulu while returning from service in the Philippines. His body was cremated. He enlisted in the Fifth Corps during the Spanish American War and served in Chickamauga. Shelbyville Indiana July 26 William Gray a contracting stone mason and former legislator was shot and killed at Red Mills near here by Mrs Martha Freeze wife of Martin Freeze of Franklin. Mrs Freeze and her husband drove from Franklin after she warned Gray and fired twice killing him. Mrs Freeze charged with murder and Martin Freeze as accessory. Gray accused of improper conduct leading to the shooting. Also in Bates county Missouri a man named Moyer was jailed for alleged cow theft after being moved from Rich Hill to Butler.
