Edwardsville Il June 1 Eleven men charged with murder in the lynching of Robert Paul Prager enemy alien were acquitted by a jury after forty five minutes of deliberation. Two ballots were taken. The court room erupted in a wild demonstration as the verdict was announced amid congratulations for the defendants.

Body of Babe Found in Abandoned Coal Mine
A decomposed infant body, about seven months old, was found noon today in a strip pit one half mile east of Panama, three and a half miles south of the city. Boys swimming near the pit made the discovery and Vernon County coroner was summoned for an investigation.

1800 Rail Shop Workers Strike in Illinois
In Moline Silvis shops 1800 workers walked out at noon demanding a 75 cent minimum wage and overtime time and a half for an eight hour workday. The Rock Island Road wage award set 55 cents. Appeals by Supt Mullinix and others failed. The workers had wired demands to Washington on Monday.

Hospital raid kills patients and staff in British advance
With the British Army in France, a large British hospital was bombed by German airmen early yesterday. Many medical workers and some patients were killed or wounded as the building burned after a large section was demolished. A few women nurses are reported among the slain with bodies buried in the ruins.

Missouri Men in June Draft Plans Announced
Jefferson City June 1 Lieutenant Colonel J W H McCord issued notices to local boards to recruit 6000 white men for Camp Pike on June 24 and 500 colored men for Fort Riley on June 16 plus 794 for schools of instruction at Rolla St Louis and Columbia on June 15. Pro vost Marshal Crowder’s draft orders were received. The 704 must be grammar school graduates with mechanical experience or aptitude. If insufficient Class 1 volunteers by June 1, boards to call them to schools. Of the 794, 175 go to St Louis Board of Education, 125 to Washington University, 165 to Rolla School of Mines, 329 to University of Missouri Columbia for training in blacksmithing gas engineering and other trades.
