Savings Bank's 1954 Report Gains Across Services
The Savings Bank of South Australia reports broad gains in all services for the year ended 30 June 1954. Depositors’ balances rise to £94,757,456, with reserves over £160 million. Average balance per head increases to £122 18 0, while mortgage lending totals £4,194,473 from 2,383 loans. The deposit limit for ordinary accounts rose to £1,500. Interest credited to accounts totals £1,925,018, with cumulative interest since inception at £36,655,021. New branches and construction planned in regional areas include Port Augusta and Yorketown, as deposits and operations expand.

Record Goalkicking Triumph For Rovers in Grand Final
Goalkicker Charlie Kellaway of the Rovers, once with Burra, starred in the Grand Final on September 11 leading Peterborough Football Association to an undefeated season. His 12 goals set a new association record, surpassing a 1930 Imperials feat. Secretary K Gower presented the ball. Kellaway dedicated it to his son Garry, Rover mascot.
