Burra Gets New Bedford School Bus for Burra High

Thanks to MP JD Hawker, Burra gains a brand new Bedford school bus for Burra High School pupils from Hallett and surrounding counties. The bus seats about 35, with double doors and modern fittings, garaged at Trallett and driven by Malcolm Pettat, christening planned next Friday before the Inter-Eigh School Sports in Balaklava.

Show Society Opens Fund Appeal for Pigeon Coup Expansion

Finance required for MGEON coops grows as Burra Show Catalogue entries, led by Mr Cath Pearce, peak. Due to many entries, more coups must be added on Showgrounds. a subscription list is opened, donations to the Secretary or President Mr W Loyd. Burra community mourns Mrs Barker longtime Red Cross leader

Residents learned on Thursday that Mrs J B Barker of Baldies died last night at the Burra conpla. Grace Mabel Featon Barker was a prominent local figure for 30 years in the Burra Red Cross, Wartime Air Observers Corps, PFCP and CWA. She led Girl Guides and chaired local golf and croquet groups. Her funeral followed a St Marys service and burial at Burrs Cemetery.

At a Friday meeting on the War Memorial Oval Burra Football Club chose Bon Wutthe as Captain-Coach for the coming season. I Hirs1 houses named vice-captain, WW Bull joined as selector and playing member. The group also decided on indoor exercises and to clear a large area near the shed for training.

Appendix Operation Performed on 300-Year-Old Patient

Doctors successfully performed an appendix operation on a centenarian, Mrs Alvna Harris, at Redditch Worcestershire Hospital. Professor J M Wenster said there had never been an such operation on a centenarian and Mrs Havers expects to go home in a few days.

Wool prices top district sale twice in two years

Mr Woollacott topped the Adelaide district wool sale with 125Rt for the wool offered in the ninth series. The sale drew large turnout and strong bidding with prices several percent higher than the last sale. Continent, UK and Australian buyers led the demand as high quality wool and muttons showed varied results.

The Burra Bowling Club held its grand closing on Saturday with fine weather and strong attendance. North Croquet Club ladies topped the day with challenges while a luncheon and trophy presentations followed by President J T Pascoe.
