Fire consumes 900 acres of Gum Creek grassland

A late Friday grass fire near Gum Creek burned about 900 acres of heavy country. Farmers Alf McWaters Lynch Bros and Peter Desw reported major losses to grazing land and fences while neighbors saved flocks and helped contain the blaze before help arrived. The cause was a spark from a bulldozer near the Leighton Hilltown road.
